LOS PREMIOS GOYA 2020: UN TRIUNFO PARA ALMODÓVAR/THE 2020 GOYA AWARDS: A TRIUMPH FOR ALMODÓVAR

Pedro Almodóvar ganó sus primeras estatuillas Goya por su película en 1988, Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios, un acontecimiento que significó algunos cambios de opinión hacia sus películas en el mundo del cine español. Almodóvar siempre ha tenido una relación ambivalente y tensa con la prensa española; quizás la relación más notable es con Ángel Fernández Santos de El País. Por lo tanto sus galardones Goya representaron su aceptación por parte de la Academia y de los altos cargos de la industria cinematográfica española. Sin embargo, no se le galardonó su siguiente premio Goya hasta 1999, cuando obtuvo dos más por Todo sobre mi madre (fueron nominadas sus películas ¡Átame! y La flor de mi secreto las cuales no fueron premiadas; estas no incluían las nominaciones a actores). Su siguiente película, Hable con ella, también ganó un Óscar pero en los Goya fue desairado, probablemente a causa de su tema difícil. De hecho en el siglo XXI solo su película Volver ha ganado algún premio (aunque la mayoría de sus películas han sido nominadas). Así fue hasta hace dos días, el 25 de enero 2020.
A la 34ª gala de los premios Goya, la película más reciente de Almodóvar, Dolor y gloria, ganó nada menos que 7 de los 16 premios a los que estaba nominada (premios por actores, música etc. incluidos). Aquí está la lista:

Su vigésima primera película es de interés especial porque es semiautobiográfica y toda su labor invertida en ello parece haber dado sus frutos para Almodóvar. Hay teorías que dicen que en los premios tienen mas éxito las películas sobre Hollywood y su producción, porque las personas que votan son principalmente de la industria de cine, así que puedan relacionarse con estas obras.
Fuera de España, Dolor y gloria ha recibido 2 nominaciones al Óscar –por Mejor película internacional y Mejor actor [Antonio Banderas]– entonces vamos a ver si Almodóvar puede reproducir su éxito en la escena internacional. A pesar del dolor y esfuerzo que le ha conllevado la realización de sus películas a lo largo de los años, en la gala de los premios Goya 2020 solo hubo gloria.

Pedro Almodóvar won his first Goya statuettes for his film in 1988, Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios, an event that meant some changes of opinion towards his films in the world of Spanish cinema. Almodóvar has always had an ambivalent and strained relationship with the Spanish press; perhaps the most notorious relationship is with Angel Fernández Santos, writer for El País. Therefore his Goya awards represented his acceptance by the Academy and the senior officials of the Spanish film industry. However, he was not awarded his next Goya award until 1999, when he won two more for Todo sobre mi madre (he received nominations for ¡Átame! y La flor de mi secreto but did not win the awards; these did not include actor nominations). His next film, Hable con ella, also won an Oscar but in the Goyas was snubbed, probably because of its difficult subject. In fact in the 21st century only his film Volver has won some prize (although most of his films have been nominated). This is the case until two days ago, on January 25, 2020.
At the 34th Goya Awards Gala, Almodóvar's most recent film, Pain and Glory, won no less than 7 of the 16 awards to which it was nominated (awards by actors, music etc. are included). Here's the list:

His twenty-first film is of special interest because it is semi-autobiographical and putting himself into his film seems to have paid off for Almodóvar. There are theories that state that Hollywood films and film production are more successful in the awards, because the people who vote are primarily from the film industry, so they can relate to these works.

Outside of Spain, Dolor y gloria has received 2 Oscar nominations –for Best International Film and Best Actor [Antonio Banderas]– we’ll see if Almodóvar can reproduce his success on the international scene. Despite the pain that he could have suffered during the making of his films over the years, at the Goya Awards gala 2020 there was only glory.
