ISSUE 9

EDITOR NOTE

Hello All. I'd just like to begin by introducing myself. I'm Ross and I'm a new Resource Assistant at the FLC along with Bukky, Izzy, Ayesha and Ana who you will be likely to bump into if you're ever hanging around the top floor of Queens. From a personal perspective, the start of this year has been really eye-opening as I've not only been able to be a part of the changes which have taken place on the renovation of our brand spanking new FLC study space, including sorting out those endless boxes, but also experience for myself what its like to work at a centre filled with people who, like me, love languages.

It really has been a privilege to read for myself some of your wonderful articles and as a speaker of a few of them it has been a really insightful linguistic and cultural exercise which I aim to enhance throughout my time as editor. I really do hope you enjoy reading this issue, not only because it has been a focus of some industrious work on my behalf, but also because I genuinely believe that publications like these make language learning worthwhile as we can see exactly what language learning itself translates into being. I hope you all continue to have a wonderful and productive year and

continue to make the most of the immense opportunities the FLC has to offer!

LANGUAGES WILL GET YOU HIRED!

ULRIKE ZITZLSPERGER

NOV 2019

What advice would I give my younger self? For one, to worry less about the future and to enjoy my studies a lot more. As a Humanities student I felt unsettled by all the well-meaning but probing questions by relatives (usually around Christmas time, but other holidays were also strong contenders).

LES MERVEILLES DE MORZINE

PARIS – PLUS QUE LA TOUR EIFFEL

BY MATTHEW SLACK

NOV 2019

BY WOLFGANG JOLLANDS AND TRANSLATED BY ROSS CHATBURN

NOV 2019

BY ISABEL WILLIAMS

NOV 2019

ITALIAN

THE SOUND OF SOUTH TYROL

BY IZZY PELLING

NOV 2019
