LIVING AND LEARNING DURING THE PANDEMIC
BY PROFESSOR ADAM WATT
NOV 2020
The first impacts of the COVID19 outbreak on the life of our departmental community made themselves felt in mid-January—almost a year ago, well before outbreak became pandemic. Our students pursuing their year abroad in China, many of them travelling during the Chinese New Year holiday, were unable to return to their host universities for the second semester.

CINQUE TERRE: THE FAMOUS FIVE OF ITALY
BY SOPHIA HILL
NOV 2020
A time-capsule of Italian summers gone; Cinque Terre is the ideal summer destination. Consisting of five 13thcentury fishing villages, all sporting pastel-coloured houses, pebbled and white-sand beaches as well as the freshest Italian seafood. Cinque Terre truly is an unsullied find.
RACE: THE BIG DEBATE IN THE NETHERLANDS
BY STEPHEN ONG
NOV 2020
Is there a country as famously liberal as the Netherlands? The Netherlands was one of the first countries to decriminalise drugs, same-sex marriage, euthanasia, and sex work, and the idea of the Dutch as a tolerant and accepting society is a familiar concept. However, during my year abroad there, I saw that like most countries, there is a growing opposition to this.
AN EXTRACT FROM 'COUNTRY CONQUERED'
BY SASHA BOND
NOV 2020
I set off some day at the end of June, still being messed about by the Covid pandemic. Having been lodging at Nana’s, on a cold but sunny morning, only with time to consume a bowl of cereal rather than my customary Full English, I festinated to Brockenhurst station.
A REVIEW OF THE RED MACHINE: REFLECTIONS ON МУЗЕЙ ХОККЕЯ - RUSSIA’S ICE HOCKEY MUSEUM
BY AILISH FARREL
NOV 2020
Found right across from the ЦСКА (CSKA) home ground is Russia’s sole Ice Hockey Museum. It is housed in a twentieth century building, designed by the Avant-Garde architect Konstantin Melnikov. This bright bricked building, with striking white window frames and a curved green roof looks out of place compared to the other architecture in this former industrial park.

LA JOIE DU CINÉMA FRANÇAIS
BY MILO WILKINSON
NOV 2020
BY TAMARA MOULE
NOV 2020

BY AMY CLOSE
NOV 2020

RICORDI DI AVVENTURE IN ITALIA
BY HARRIET LORD
NOV 2020

BY CAMILLA ARVIDSSON
NOV 2020
BY ANISA MARSH
NOV 2020
